Polished plaster, also known as Grassello, is a traditional technique originating from the Veneto region of Italy. Known as the classic, Italian finish.

Once used to coat columns, steps and facades. Grassello has been used for centuries to give the appearance of marble walls. In fact, records show that the process of polished plaster has been around for thousands of years. Applied by compressing down material in layers to a very high shine. Probably one of the most labour intensive finishes that we provide. Grassello (sometimes referred to as Spatulato) needs a perfect background to go onto.

It’s made from finely crushed marble flour with lime putty, creating a smooth, high shine finish to give the appearance of highly polished marble walls. It can be pigmented to any colour or shade.

This Marble plaster offers a stunning polished finish that stands head and shoulders above other traditional plasters. The consistency of the Grassello varies depending on how finely the marble has been ground and the quality of the lime used, which affects the texture of the finished surface. Hikitia surface design only use the finest quality materials from Italy.

A key feature of Grassello polished plaster is that it is eco-friendly. The plaster is made from recycled natural materials that are renewable. The fact that it’s a breathable product and produces zero volatile organic compounds makes this a highly desirable product among the eco-conscious.

We find that Grassello plaster has many design possibilities. It can be used in both modern or classic designs and of course everything in between. Its versatility allows it to be used across a wide range of projects, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, or commercial spaces such as restaurants, hotels, and bars.

A big advantage of Grassello plaster is that it’s low maintenance and very durable, meaning it will withstand the test of time. With very minimal care and attention, a Grassello wall can maintain its high-quality finish for years to come. It’s durability and also the fact that it’s easy to clean, makes it ideal for use in high-traffic applications.

Overall, if you are looking to add a touch of class and elegance to your space, whilst being durable, low maintenance and eco-conscious , then Grassello polished plaster is the finish for you.
